What do you get when you take the real housewives of New York out of Real Housewives of New York? Bravo viewers are about to find out, if a new report is true. The Huffington Post's Rob Shuter claims that Jill Zarin, Alex McCord and Kelly Bensimon -- literally half the cast! -- have not been invited back to the show next season.
In fact, HuffPo says that on Thursday morning Bravo notified Zarin, 47, McCord, 37, and Bensimon, 43, that they would not be returning as full-time cast members. The news could actually come as a relief to fans, since it would mean that Bravo is not firing the entire cast (as was rumored in May). Judging from the sparks that flew at the reunion show, there will be no shortage of drama between LuAnn de Lesseps, Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan.
But what about new cast member Cindy Barshop? In June, Hollywood Life claimed that the entrepreneurial mother of twins had been axed along with the McCords. But as of last week, it was anybody's guess.
"Obviously nobody’s got it going down right now, but soon -- probably another week everybody will know," Barshop told the press during a Fashion Week event. That said, a source tells Us Weekly that Barshop will indeed be among those getting the guillotine. What's more, Us claims that Singer isn't a sure thing, either, and is in the midst of negotiating a new contract.
So will the remaining housewives be left to carry the show on their own? Huffington Post's insider says that three new ladies will be added to the cast, which Sonja Morgan confirmed Wednesday on New York Live. But, says the source, there's a catch: The fired housewives could reportedly be rehired if any of the new housewives don't work out. That's one way to ratchet up the drama!
Bravo has not confirmed the reported cast changes, saying that "no decisions have been made yet." We only hope they've got some amazing new characters in the wings. After all, women as nutty as Kelly Bensimon don't come along every day!

Ashton Kutcher may now seem like the best choice, but he wasn't Chuck Lorre's first choice to replace Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men (premiering Monday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. ET). In fact, the CBS show's creator was stumped about how to incorporate the 33-year-old actor into the show, after he was suggested by the network.
"I was completely convinced that we needed a forty-something costar who would be a peer to Jon (Cryer)," Lorre told TV Guide. Kutcher -- known for his roles in That 70's Show and silly movies like Dude, Where's My Car? -- just seemed an unlikely guy to take the place of the aging, hedonistic Charlie Harper.
"When I met Ashton, then went back and watched his films and TV work, it was obvious my assumption was wrong. Here was a guy with great comedy instincts, tons of experience, and who is totally fearless -- taking the job proves that. Most importantly, he has a big heart that I thought would be a huge asset in creating a character we could care for," said Lorre.
Co-creator Lee Aronsohn adds that Kutcher's addition to the cast has given everyone involved with the series "a shot of adrenaline," and that there's a sense of newness around the set, even though the show is entering its 9th season. "It feels like the best of both worlds: a well-developed series and a brand new one at the same time," says Lorre.
But not too brand new, he says. "Like I said, it's still a show that veers into the vaguely unacceptable. If, in the past, you enjoyed thinking, 'I can't believe they just did that raunchy joke,' you will not be disappointed in Two and a Half Men 2.0."
Well, that's a relief. Click here to preview photos of the new season, which starts next week!

Young love ruled the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez had the ultimate date night, and the entire world was watching.
It all kicked off when the black-carpet VMA Pre-Show started on Sunday (August 28); the couple's adorableness would have viewers "awww"-ing throughout the night. Gomez, who was doing a stint as the pre-show co-host, spoke to a number of celebrities, including Britney Spears and bestie Demi Lovato, but things really got interesting when the Biebs showed up.
Bieber -- wearing glasses, red pants, leopard-print kicks and a tuxedo jacket -- stopped to chat with Gomez, who was decked out in a lacey black mini-dress.
"I have a snake. I have red pants and cheetah shoes. My snake's name is Johnson," he said when Gomez asked about his outfit.
The singer/actress continued to press him in the most professional way about his Best Male Video nod, and Bieber played it cool standing next to his girl. "I'm just excited to be in the category with such amazing people," he told her.
Bieber, a long time Beyoncé fan, admitted he was excited to see her perform, as well as Kanye West and Jay-Z. While Selena tried hard to remain professional, Bieber made their encounter even more adorable when he leaned in to kiss her cheek.

By the time the show started, Beyoncé and Jay-Z had announced their own good news, but the young pop stars were a bit less coy about their romance. In fact, despite Kim Kardashian's best efforts to flirt with Bieber as she presented him with the Moonman for Best Male Video for "U Smile," it was clear from the way he kissed Selena as he made his way to the stage that he only has eyes for one girl.
